Subject: Parents Assisting In Technology Systems
Trusted Colleagues,
I am writing to you today hoping to find references for a small group I am attempting to form with the support of the District Technology Committee, the IT department, and the assistant superintendent. Specifically, I am looking to set up a district wide parent volunteer group (called PATS for now) to assist the school system with technology related issues. This will involve such things as setting up computers, simple trouble shooting and computer repair, helping with backup and/or restoration processes, and whatever else the district sees fit to ask us to do.
For the near future, I'd like to keep the group small enough to manage while still having representation from all of the schools and a sufficient spectrum of capabilities to tackle a myriad of tasks. Since I personally am only familiar with the Elmhurst parent group (and not even all of them), I need to rely upon my other contacts to put me in contact with individuals who fit the niche I am looking to fill.
I figure the tasks involved would be of several types. There would be "on call" types of tasks, going in for a short time a few times a month to address a specific problem. On other occasions, we would be tasked with larger tasks like building new labs and moving computers around that would require a group of us to work a few hours on the weekend or at night.
As for skill sets, a wide smattering would be good. Installing software, managing user accounts. installing drivers, managing networks, imaging hard drives, building web pages, connecting projectors, troubleshooting printers, setting up servers, and other such stuff.
So I am hoping that my trusted agents can put me in touch with people who would be interested in this sort of endeavor with the right kind of background. And of course, feel free to put your own hat in the ring..
Look foward to hearing from you soon, and thanks for taking the time to read this.
