Dear Parents and Guardians of Portsmouth School Department Students:

 

As you may know, the School Department is once again facing some tough budget decisions for the coming school year (2007-08).  Consequently, we are looking at numerous ways to save costs while maintaining services to students to the maximum extent possible.  One of our considerable costs is in the area of bus transportation.  The purpose of this letter is to outline a potential cost savings measure in this area.

 

If your child qualifies for bus transportation but you know that s/he will not be taking the bus during the next school year, you may voluntarily sign and submit the transportation waiver below so that your child will not be added to next year's bus route - which potentially saves us money on buses.  

 

Please understand that if your circumstances change at any time before or during the next school year, all you need to do is notify Central Administration, and your child will be added to a bus route.  This would be no different than the School Department's obligation to add children of any new families moving into the system to bus routes during the school year.  Again, I want to emphasize that exercising this waiver is completely voluntary, and if your circumstances change at any time, your child will be added back to a bus route once you have notified Central Administration.

BUS TRANSPORTATION WAIVER

 

I hereby voluntarily waive my child's right to bus transportation for the 2007-08 school year, as s/he does not plan to take the bus.  I understand that if these circumstances change at any time before or during the school year, I simply need to notify the Portsmouth School Department, and my child will be added to a bus route.
