Dear Parents,

Just a reminder that for the winter weather, the information for finding out about school cancellations, delayed openings and unscheduled early dismissals is in page 4 of the Hathaway Elementary Handbook. This handbook was sent home to every family on the first day of school, but if you have misplaced yours and need another copy, please call the school office.

Basically to find out about any changes in our school day, we are asking you to listen to the television (Channels 6, 10 or 12); to use the internet (Cancellations.com or Turnto10.com); or to listen to the radio WPRO FM 92.3 or WADK AM 1540. You can also sign up for an automatic email notification of any school closings, instead of waiting for school cancellations to be announced on your local TV or radio stations. Here is the direct link for signing up: http://www.turnto10.com/closings/index.html.

On the days that children wear boots to school we encourage you to send in a pair of slippers which the children can wear during the day while they let their boots dry out. The slippers can be left at school in a plastic bag for use during the winter. We really want the children to avoid catching colds.

The recess plan for the winter is to have the children play outside in good weather....to wear hats, mittens and boots as needed. If the temperature reaches 32 degrees or if there is a wind chill factor of 32 degrees, the children will have recess in their classrooms. During that time they are encouraged to play board games, have conversations, read or use the computers for assignments.

Respectfully,

Christina M.Martin, Ed.D.
Principal
